A walk between Highbridge and Burnham-on-Sea overlooking the sailing club

Apex Leisure and Wildlife Park is an urban park and wildlife centre in Highbridge, Somerset, England. The park was created on the site of a former clay pit and brickwork manufacturing site and provides a link between Highbridge and Burnham-on-Sea. There are various facilities including an outdoor gym, a lake and birdlife.

Although Burnham-On-Sea Pier is Britain’s shortest pier and comprises no more than a shoreward end pavilion on concrete piles, it is still a lovely structure that, unlike a lot of its bigger counterparts, still retains its Edwardian features and elegance.

The Low Lighthouse is one of three historic lighthouses in Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset, England, and the only one of the three which is still active.

This is Huntspill Sluice - it is passable (and a safe crossing) but you might have to lift your handlebars over the wall to get through

Great walk for all ability gravel path so not muddy walk can be made bigger as can walk down to the sea ,plenty of parking

End of the road. Take care the jetty is only accessible at low tide and there are strong currents. Originally constructed for the transfer of railway passengers and freight to paddle steamers which crossed the Bristol Channel to Wales.

Steep escarpment but worth the climb

Easy flat walking

The official coastal path between back fences. It’s narrow to say the least.

Burnham Seafront. The fish and chips smelt delicious. Gets quieter the further south you go.

A floating path. Much fun but mind the gaps. After the gate, head right down the concrete path and it turns into floating bricks.

If it has rained a lot, then recommend if you want to go up and down a different way, you ascend from the north and descend on the south. The south has steps; the north is slippery and steep and needs trail shoes if not dry for some time. If only going up and down, do from the south. On a clear day, there are great views - Glastonbury, the Quantocks, Exmoor, the Welsh coast and the Brecon Beacons and the Mendips. It was once an Iron Age fort; the Romans called it "the Isle of Frogs" as it looked like a squatting frog from some angles and in those days, the marshes had not been drained. And at Easter, on the east side, a local group erects three crosses.

Great spot by the sea to eat an ice cream, fish and chips or just to get some fresh air

This used to be the end of the line for the Somerset and Dorset line. You used to be able to excursion here from Bath and beyond by train.

At the mouth of the River Parrett, upon Bridgwater Bay is Burnham on Sea. This pier is all that remains of the Somerset and Dorset railway that connected Cardiff (via steamer) to the Southcoast. The trains used to run from Burnham-on-sea and then to Wells, Glastonbury, Bath (for connections to the Midlands) as well as Wareham and Swanage in Dorset.
