Originally built in 1195 by monks of Boxley Abbey to brew beer. Became a pub in 1539, and at various times later used as a coaching halt, customs and excise posting house, poor house, and post office. Now a pub with a large beer garden and very popular for food.

A most stop for lunch, even in these time of COVID-19 they have open the burger shack where you can get chips and burgers or a cold drink. They will be open every weekend from this weekend
