We took the bus from Shikoku in December. We reserved our seats by calling a day in advance. If you just show up, they might take you if there is space (our bus driver seemed cooperative) but on the phone they sounded very strict about making a reservation. Officially, you’re supposed to lower the saddle and remove the front wheel and front rack in advance so the bike fits into the bicycle carrier. However, we forgot to take off the front rack and we could simply slide our bicycles on their sides into the luggage compartment (the same way it works in most countries).
