7月 22, 2025, Chester Cathedral
Entrance fee is £5 per person. Allow yourself some time, as the cathedral is very large and complex. Its cloister and courtyard are very beautiful. Inside the church, there was a replica made of Lego bricks, illuminated, and even a detailed interior.

11月 22, 2024, Eastgate Clock Tower
Eastgate Street in Chester is one of the city's most iconic and historic thoroughfares. It's part of the renowned Chester Rows and features a mix of medieval and Tudor-style buildings with unique double-level shopping galleries. The street is home to the famous Eastgate Clock, an ornate timepiece mounted on the historic city walls, and is often considered the second most photographed clock in England after Big Ben.

The Millenium Greenway runs along an old railway line from Mickle Trafford, located east of Chester, through the historic city of Chester to the Wharf at Connah's Quay. This cycling or walking route is short, traffic-free and fairly flat. It makes for the perfect day out for families or less experienced cyclists.

3月 18, 2024, Wirral Way
Great path that can get muddy in winter. But it runs right along the Wirral coast then comes in land. It gets busy with walker runners and other cyclists.

Good views across the canal. Plenty people use the pathways on the sides of the canal. Best not to ride fast along this section

Another grand old historical building. Chester Cathedral, there are many trees in the cathedral grounds, making it difficult to take a clear photo

2月 17, 2024, Burton Marsh Boardwalk
This is a fantastic 7.5km return bike ride along the Cheshire side of the Dee Estuary. It follows the National Cycle Network route number 568, running from Hawarden Bridge near the Deeside Industrial Estate all the way to Neston, Cheshire, on the Wirral peninsula. It’s not just for cyclists though, the cycle path is for pedestrians too and would be fantastic for prams, so I’ll include this post in the walks section too. On a clear day the views across the marshes and estuary towards North Wales are beautiful. Once upon a time the River Dee ran right up alongside the shores of Burton up to Parkgate. As shipping access to the city of Chester became impossible because of the silting of its port, quays were built in the early seventeenth century (although it’s suspected that quays existed here since medieval times) at Burton and Neston to serve as outports for the city. As they became victims of silting themselves, a further port was built at Parkgate. Between them they functioned as trading ports.

This is one of the most beautiful cathedrals on show in the whole of the UK. It is simply magnificent! It has a history dating back to 1092 when it was first constructed as a Benedictine Abbey. It took 275 years to transform the building into the beautiful Gothic-style structure you see on display today. The architecture is amazing as is the woodwork craftsmanship. A totally must see if you are in Chester.

Story The city of Chester was already an important place in Roman times (as Castra Deviana). There is an assumption that there was already a basilica in the city at that time. A Benedictine abbey was founded in 1093, and the oldest parts of today's cathedral come from this abbey. The abbey church was not yet Chester Cathedral at this time. In 1538, when King Henry VIII dissolved the English monasteries, the abbey was closed. Three years later, in 1541, the abbey church was made a cathedral by order of the king. While the abbey was still dedicated to St. Werburgh, Chester's patron saint, the cathedral has now been rededicated to Christ and the Virgin Mary. Interior of the cathedral Interior of the cathedral Since the 19th century, the cathedral has been restored several times, and in the 20th century a free-standing tower was built next to the cathedral. In 1922, a memorial to soldiers who died in the First World War was unveiled in the cathedral. Since 1955, the cathedral and the associated monastery buildings have been classified as Grade I buildings. (Source:https://www.wikiwand.com/de/Chester_Cathedral)

Chester Cathedral is a must-see for any visitor to the city of Chester. Founded as a Benedictine abbey in 1092, this incredible structure was subsequently rebuilt around 1250 and took 275 years to transform the building into the stunning Gothic-style building we see today. Chester Cathedral has the most complete complex of monastic buildings in the country, including a Georgian square and series of streets, the remains of Roman barracks on Dean's Field and the largest open green spaces within the walls, popular with both locals and locals are visitors alike. Chester Cathedral is a fully functioning church with over 20 regular services per week, ensuring the cathedral is a vibrant hub for the Chester community. There's something going on every day at Chester Cathedral. Chester Cathedral is a Church of England cathedral and the mother church of the Diocese of Chester. It is located in the city of Chester, Cheshire, England. The cathedral, formerly the abbey church of a Benedictine monastery dedicated to Saint Werburgh, is dedicated to Christ and the Blessed Virgin Mary. Since 1541 it has been the seat of the Bishop of Chester. The cathedral is a listed building and is part of a heritage site that also includes the former monastic buildings to the north, which are also listed. The construction of the cathedral took place between the 10th century [3] and the early 16th century, undergoing several changes throughout history, a typical feature of English cathedrals; However, the site itself may have been used for Christian worship since Roman times. All major styles of English medieval architecture, from Norman to Perpendicular, are represented in the current building. (Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chester_Cathedral)

9月 18, 2023, Eastgate Clock Tower
The original gate was guarded by a wooden tower, which was replaced in the 2nd century by a stone tower, which in turn was probably replaced in the 14th century. The current gate dates from 1768 and is a three-arched sandstone structure supporting the walkway which forms part of Chester's city walls. In 1899, a clock was added to the top of the gate to celebrate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee two years earlier. It is supported by pierced iron pillars, has a clock face on all four sides and a copper dome. The clock was designed by Chester architect John Douglas. The entire structure, gate and clock, was designated as a Category I listed building on 28 July 1955. (Source:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastgate,_Chester)
