The Llangollen Canal crosses the border between England and Wales. Its combination of picturesque countryside and breath-taking engineering draws visitors from far and wide.

Hanmer Mere (Welsh: Llyn Hanmer) is a natural lake and a site of Special Scientific Interest in Wrexham County Borough, Wales. The village of Hanmer is at the northern end of the lake. The lake is 18 hectares (44 acres) in extent.

St Alkmund’s Church is a captivating Grade I-listed building. Founded in 912 AD, the church was initially built of white stone, which is why the town is called Whitechurch. However, in 1711 the tower collapsed and had to be rebuilt in red sandstone ashlar, which is why the ‘white church’ looks a little redder than you might expect.

The Mere at Ellesmere is the largest of Shropshire's nine Meres and it is a stunning one at that. It hosts woodland walks, gardens, ice-creams, a café/restaurant and is a haven for wildlife such as Swans, Ducks and Herons. A perfect place to take a break from your ride.

Hanmer is home to one of the nine Meres in this part of the world and it is a beautiful tranquil place. Having the bulk of St Chad's church looking down over the whole scene just adds to the ambience of the whole place.

I had the chance to see the bridge lift ! The pub next to it was great … some years ago but now turned for the worse ( do nit order a cappuccino unless you like tepid milked coffee).

Handy place to stop if you want a nice quite spot by a lake. There's also a small store on the corner if you want to buy a snack or drink.

Lift bridge just outside Wrenbury. If you try really hard you can imagine your in the Netherlands crossing a small canal!

Focal point of the nice town of Whitchurch. The town takes its name from the white stone originally used to make the church, way back in around the 10th Century AD. A very impressive building and well worth checking out if you have time to stop.

Colemere is one of Shropshire's most beautiful meres. Almost entirely surrounded by woodland and grassland, it's a haven for wildlife - keep an eye out for wildfowl and wading birds, wildflowers including a number of different species of orchid.

The road up from Whitchurch is fine. The road down is very narrow. Make sure you can stop quickly if you meet a car coming up the hill. The section between the farm and the T junction is very potholed with lots of loose gravel.

Parked at the Mere £1hour for parking. Set off through the town to the canal Basin.

With a lot of pleasure I stopped by and sat on a bench admiring the beauty of the Mere.

View is indeed nice, place to stop and chill on benches or grass in warm days.

Beautifully located peaceful church, could be attended

Victoria Jubilee Park is a large open park with neatly kept flower beds and grassed areas. There is a children’s play area, a bandstand and a number of picnic benches.

Farmers talked about flying lights moving in darkness, soundless… morning exposed truth! Everybody shocked including local cows and squirrels. 🤨

Country Club a place where you can play golf and spend time on climbing trees 😉

Impressive church, worth seeing inside as well.
