The Royal Bridge House was built in 1635, together with a bascule bridge that could be used to cross the harbor. The bridge connected the royal gardens on the Rethövel with the royal palace in the city. The bridge keeper lived in the small, two-story half-timbered building of the bridge house with a clearly overhanging upper floor. Around 1890, the bridge was demolished and the bridge keeper's house sold. It is now privately owned.

The street "Am Hafen" is considered the most important waterfront street in northern Germany. It lives from the varied play of its facades and the invigorating green dyke that separates the functional "residential" area from the commercial "harbor" area. The entire ensemble is a listed building.

In Itzehoe, the old railway line is well developed and wide - towards Hohenlockstedt the path becomes narrower and narrower and ends in a narrow, thin trail - wonderful!
