アシャッハ・アン・デア・ドナウは、訪れるとすぐに絵葉書の中にいるような気分になる場所の一つです。オーバーエスターライヒ州（エフェルディング郡）で最も古く、最も魅力的な市場町の一つであり、ドナウ川の大きな湾曲部に直接位置しています。アシャッハは何世紀にもわたり、海運と貿易の重要な結節点でした。これは今日でも町の景観に反映されています。ドナウ川の遊歩道沿いの家並みは、主に16世紀（ルネサンスとバロック様式）のものです。ファサードは見事に修復されており、人気の写真撮影スポットとなっています。

Between Puchenau and Linz, the Danube Cycle Path runs directly along the Danube River, offering a pleasant blend of nature and city life. Along the way, riparian forests, meadows, and sweeping views across the Danube Valley accompany the ride, while the silhouette of Linz becomes visible in the distance. The closer you get to the city, the more vibrant the surroundings become – modern architecture, the Danube Park, and inviting riverside promenades beckon you to take a short break. Finally, the path leads directly into the heart of Linz, where culture, history, and the joy of life converge on the river – a short but particularly beautiful section of the Danube Cycle Path.

From the Danube Cycle Path, an impressive view opens up of the Ottensheim–Wilhering power plant, which spans the Danube at this point. The plant was built between 1970 and 1974 and is one of Austria's most important run-of-river power plants. With its clear, functional architecture, it blends harmoniously into the river landscape and symbolizes the connection between nature, technology, and energy generation. For cyclists, this section not only offers a charming view but also insight into the modern use of the Danube as an energy source.

The Ottensheim–Wilhering ferry is a traditional cable ferry across the Danube, crossing the river since 1871 and still safely transporting pedestrians, cyclists, and cars between the two banks. As an important part of the Danube Cycle Path, it connects not only towns but also past and present. Guided by a steel cable, it glides smoothly over the river, offering charming views of the Danube and the surrounding landscape. Despite new bridges and roads, it has retained its original character and remains a popular means of transport and a living piece of regional tradition.
