    From here you have a super great view of the castle and the place, which is always worth a detour. The ferry crossing alone is an experience in itself.

      Friday after 3 pm there is always a Bauernmaekt on Marktplarz. He is really great. Since it is quite sociable and it will be sold great Prrodukte. You meet there by bike and chat with a Glaa must, Bìer or wine!

        Ottensheim Castle goes back to a Wilheringer castle. In 1148 the brothers Ulrich and Cholo von Wilhering are named as owners.

        From 1220 to 1527 the castle was in sovereign possession. The Habsburgs pledged them to the Lords of Walsee from 1331 to 1461 and to the Lichtensteiners from 1461 to 1492. In 1524, Niklas Rabenhaupt von Suche received Ottensheim from King Ferdinand I as a fief. In 1527 he was able to transfer the castle into his free property and had it converted into a palace.

        From 1529 to 1621 Ottensheim was owned by the Upper Austrian estates.

        Emperor Ferdinand II pledged the land above the Enns to the Bavarian Elector Maximilian. This drew Ottensheim to himself and gave it to the Jesuits. After the Jesuit order was abolished in 1773, Ottensheim fell to the imperial court chamber.

        Today the castle is privately owned.

                The municipality, once an important trading hub on the Danube, is the third oldest market in Upper Austria and has a historic market center with buildings from the 16th century. Ottensheim has now developed into a popular place to live for families due to its distinctive leisure and recreation areas and its proximity to Linz, combined with strong population growth since the 1990s.
