Diex, the sunniest municipality in Austria! That's why I chose this tranquil village as my retirement home. 😊 Located on the southern foothills of the Saualpe at 1,153 m above sea level, it's a hiking paradise with numerous options, from leisurely strolls to challenging hikes. Located on the Mariazellerweg (Marienpilgerweg) 306, the Eisenwurzenweg 08 (308), the Hemma-Pilgerweg Route 2 Crna-Gurk, and several others. There are also many regional hiking trails. On a rock above a rest area, the hiker encounters another small sacred monument. However, this one—known as the "Messner's Cross"—is not designed in the usual manner for most crucifixes: The base for the cross is the upwardly open fork of a tree trunk, which is then capped with a protective gable roof. The resulting space between the branches reveals the actual cross, made of light wood and bearing the body of the crucified Christ.

The Diex parish church is one of the best preserved fortified churches in Carinthia and is located in the center of Diex on the southern slope of the Saualpe. It is dedicated to Saint Martin. The church was first mentioned in a Gurk land register in 1326, but its origins date back to before 1168.

This (still nameless - have to find out first - ruin) is located about 100 m above the Petschnig cross in the forest.

Bought as a residential home by a young couple a few years ago and have been renovating it step by step since then.
