The Diex parish church is one of the best preserved fortified churches in Carinthia and is located in the center of Diex on the southern slope of the Saualpe. It is dedicated to Saint Martin. The church was first mentioned in a Gurk land register in 1326, but its origins date back to before 1168.

Not far from the old bridge in Lippitzbach, a new bridge was built over the Drau, spanning the valley. It was named “Jörg Haider Bridge” after the then governor.

In the 15th century, the churches of Diex and Grafenbach were converted into fortified churches because of the Turkish threat.

The municipality is located at around 1200 meters above sea level and offers a unique panoramic view. With more than 2000 hours of sunshine per year, Diex is the sunniest mountain village in Austria.
