The Protestant Church of St. Martin in Vollerwiek is one of the six churches on the Eiderstedt peninsula that celebrated their 900th anniversary in 2013. Yet St. Martin is unique compared to the other five old churches: St. Martin has already been extensively renovated and restored—most recently from 2010 to 2012.

There are several of these inscribed stones along the path. Some are clearly visible, others are somewhat overgrown. If you don't see them, don't worry.

You could almost walk past it, the stone is so hidden in the meadow. It looks like an old signpost. Or does anyone here know more...?

Great view, but otherwise a totally ugly asphalt embankment that you wouldn't enjoy walking on for miles.

Great for bird lovers and in good weather you have a great view, but the asphalt embankment is not so great for hiking and probably too warm for dog paws in midsummer.

This impressive structure with its massive dykes provides reliable protection from the storm surges of the North Sea. On the land side, the wide Eider estuary extends as far as Tönning, and at low tide, mudflats are created that serve as a source of food for numerous bird species.
