There are a few pleasant routes through this wood, some of the tracks are quite boggy due to ongoing forestry operations, however, it is very easy to circumvent these patches.

Archetypal English village with its large village green surrounded by pretty stone houses and two pubs. The open beck runs in front of the houses in Eastgate, each with their own private bridge. The banks of the stream are planted with flowers. A large flat circular stone on the green known as the whipping stone is probably the base of the old market cross but rumour has it that a man was whipped to death here in 1624. https://www.newbaldparishcouncil.gov.uk/about-newbald/

Car park 300m to the west if you don't want to walk all the way from Market Weighton. Steep chalk embankment with meadow underneath. Very scenic and I saw a small flock of jet black Hebridean sheep.

The Yorkshire Wolds Way passes close by to here and there are are plenty of wide open fields, resplendent in bright yellow rapeseed in the spring, to enjoy.

North Newbald is a 'typical' village with a village green and pubs at its centre. Ings Beck flows in front of village houses which makes it even more picturesque. It is a popular place for walkers as the Yorkshire Wolds Way passes nearby. On the village green you will see the Whipping Stone. Newbald stone was used to build parts of York as well as St Mary's and the Minster in Beverley. The quarry is long since depleted.
