Excavations carried out during the restoration revealed that a Carolingian wooden hall church with a semicircular sandstone choir, dating back to the 8th-9th century, was likely replaced before 1139 by a single-nave Romanesque church made of white natural stone. In the first half of the 12th century, a Romanesque tower was built on the south side, and in the mid-13th century, a Romanesque transept of white sandstone was added. This church was expanded in the first half of the 15th century with a larger choir and a west tower, both in Gothic style. Later renovations and repairs in the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries shaped the church's current appearance, in which elements from various architectural periods and styles combine to form a harmonious whole. Relaxing at the water's edge is always fun

The Sint-Pieterskerk is the parish church of the town of Puurs, part of the Antwerp municipality of Puurs-Sint-Amands, located at Kerkplein 2. It is an oriented three-aisled church, built in sandstone. The church has a five-fold closed choir. The west tower is built between the baptistery and the winter chapel. In the eastern wall of the southern transept, remains of the 12th-century church can still be found in Tournai stone. The Gothic choir dates from the beginning of the 15th century. The northern transept, also in Gothic style, dates from 1640-1642. The tower, executed in Baroque style, dates from 1665-1689. From 1742-1755, the church was enlarged, with the nave and the side aisles executed in classicist style.

According to an article in De Standaard, the stretched-out Iron Figure by Mark Manders appears to be a sunbathing figure by the water.

50 years ago this building was a ruined pigsty. The current building is a beautiful renovation.
