I don't know why this spot was called the Witch Lilo Amphitheater, perhaps by combining two highlights? What I do know is that Witch Lilo was the artistic alter ego (though not the one) of Hilde Leenaerts, a very sweet childhood friend, and more than that, who passed away far too soon. She cared for troubled young people and was known in Holsbeek and the surrounding area as a superb storyteller who often told stories at Horst Castle. And on the little house near the amphitheater is a text dedicated to that beautiful Hilde, a.k.a. Witch Lilo, which you can learn more about here: https://wordpress.donfabulist.be/nl/lilos-vertelboom/uitvaart-van-goede-heks-lilo/ Enjoy this piece of forest; it is enchanted by the optimism, strength, and wondrous world of an angel in a witch's costume.

Beautiful but in a wet year much too swampy for runners, and in summer you can't get through if it isn't pruned 😅

The Watermill on the Winge or Gempemolen was the abbey mill of the Norbertine nuns of Gempe, which was already mentioned in 1229 and has been in private hands since 1728. On 12 April 1944, the mill was protected as a monument. During this period, the miller's house was also known as a remote café. During the Second World War, a lot of milling was still done, but the activity slowly died out. After years of inactivity, the Brewery of Haacht bought the Gempemolen in the 1990s to convert the miller's house into a café after a thorough restoration. Until the French Revolution, the area surrounding the Chartreuz Forest was the property of the Carthusian Order. In the period of the Brabant revolution (1789) and the French invasion (1792), the goods of the churches and monasteries were secularized and dissolved. Quite a few of those properties came into the hands of OCMWs. For example, a number of plots in the Chartreuzenbos also became the property of the OCMW of Leuven. However, most of the Linden and Chartreuzenbos came into the hands of private owners. This and much more in this brochure from the Flemish Brabant Agency for Nature and Forests: https://www.natuurruimtes.be/sites/default/files/folder_linden-_en_chartreuzenbos.pdf

You can open shutters for light, but don't forget to close them again.

This play area is part of the so-called Holsbeek Play Fabric. This is a collaboration between the municipality, Regional Landscape North Hageland, IGO and the Nature and Forest Agency to combine biodiversity, education and recreation through the construction of a "green play network". For example, there is also one near Horst Castle (see highlight there). And here you will find the play area "On an adventure in Chartreuzenbos" where the blue-black spiny mushroom takes center stage. There are a total of six playgrounds in Holsbeek. An example for many municipalities. Info at https://www.holsbeek.be/holsbeeks-speelvezel And about "On an adventure in Chartreuzenbos" in particular you have this: https://www.holsbeek.be/op-avontuur-in-chartreuzenbos
