The name “Sars” comes from the Latin “Sartum”, meaning a cleared place, emphasizing its agricultural vocation. Sars-la-Bruyère is crossed by an old Roman road linking Bavay to Utrecht. The keep of Sars-la-Bruyère, dating from the 13th century, is one of the oldest medieval remains in the region.

This brewery is located in an old annex of a water mill which has now disappeared. In a friendly and authentic atmosphere, it offers a menu developed around products from the local region. Since 1989, it has also included a micro-brewery.

The chapel is the oldest place of worship dedicated to Notre-Dame de Lourdes in Wallonia and the second oldest in Belgium. Regular prayer services and some larger gatherings are still held. But at the moment she is abandoned.
