Not the most picturesque waterway, but just having the sound of the water accompanying us as we walk is a pleasure, and I prefer this forest path to the asphalt roads in the woods that run parallel to it.

View over the Ardennes

The Basilica of Saint-Hubert is located in the center of the city and is not only an important place of pilgrimage, but also a protected cultural monument of Wallonia. The foundation of the church dates back to the 7th century, but the current building is a structure that dates mainly from the 16th century. The basilica is dedicated to Saint Hubert of Liège, whose bones were transferred here in 825. However, these were lost after the dissolution of the abbey, so a cenotaph - a false grave - of Saint Hubert is located in the basilica. When there are no services taking place, you can visit the basilica. Guided tours of the church building are also available on request.

The Lomme is a river about 46 kilometers long that flows through the Ardennes in southeastern Belgium. It has its source near Bras, a village in the municipality of Libramont-Chevigny. On this stretch of the route between Grupont and Mirwart, you follow the course of the river through a wooded valley. But there are also light areas along the banks with picnic areas equipped with a table and benches. This way, you can listen to the rippling and rushing of the river during a break.

Here, at the highest point of Saint-Michel, you are in the middle of the Saint-Michael-Freyr forest. There is a wonderful beech forest all around. There is even a place to sit here, which allows you to linger for a while.
