Hof te Poddegem is the oldest known farmstead in Grimbergen. The origins of this medieval fortified farm date back to a 5th-century Frankish domain. 'Poddegem' literally means 'the home of the people of Pud'. In the 13th century, Hof te Poddegem was mentioned as a fief of the Prince of Grimbergen. (Wikipedia)

Hidden in the green Maalbeek valley lies the Hof te Poddegem, a former moated castle with an impressive 14th century keep – the smallest square residential tower in Flanders! The medieval site with remains of ramparts, a gate tower and old farm buildings breathes history, from Frankish origins to status symbol of local lords.

Plastered and painted interior with a two-part elevation in the nave and a three-part elevation in the choir... Profiled pointed arch arcade on round columns with acanthus leaf capitals on octagonal plinths... Fanlight conceived as partly blind pointed arch windows of which only the upper part was opened... Profiled cross-ribbed vaults and belt arches on corbels supported by half-columns with acanthus leaf capitals...

This castle has been a ruin since the end of WWII. Work is now being done to prevent it from collapsing further.

This windmill will be renovated in the next 2 years. Because it is on a gr-route and on the pilgrimage route to compostela, a tractor hut will be installed above the stables
