Fort 2 is a fort located in Wommelgem and part of the Brialmont belt built under Henri Alexis Brialmont.

This little field chapel is sometimes still a noble unknown, even for people who live in the area. It was built in 1903 by mason Baptist Joris, commissioned by farmer Stan Van Camp. The latter lived from 1875 to 1967. On the altar we see a statue of Our Lady. That statue was brought from Lourdes. The Van Camp family also had two terminally ill children. To appease our dear Lord, the devout Stan Van Camp decided to enlarge the chapel somewhat in 1928. During the work, a piece of facade collapsed, causing Stan to suffer serious injuries to his feet. Still, he was able to finish the work. Until the 1960s, a foot procession traveled here every May to pray the rosary. That procession also passed other chapels in Wommelgem, but almost all of them have disappeared. The chapel is now owned by the Smits family. It is heartening that Charlotte and Johan Smits continue to ensure impeccable maintenance. Hopefully it can remain that way and this beautiful piece of heritage will not have to be lost to the industry. We symbolically light a candle for this together with all sympathizers of De Keer!

The special memorial 'Via Dolorosa' is mainly made up of shells, a gun barrel and a shovel. The artwork commemorates the Battle of Antwerp from August 28 to October 10, 1914. Perhaps a trigger to visit the Binnenfort.

At this location you have a beautiful view of the Hoofdfront and the fortress moat. What is the Main Front? The Main Front was protected by the left and right caponier, an island facing the enemy consisting of two bomb-proof flanks and a triangle in which a central corridor was connected to the batteries, stores, etc. The caponier is connected to the main front by a brick bridge. In the main front, opening onto an open space, accommodation was provided for soldiers and non-commissioned officers. The various rooms are connected by a gallery, and a central corridor leads to the caponier. On both sides of the main front, at the corners of the trapezium, are the half caponiers, consisting of a corridor and batteries. The most impressive part of the fort is the inner fort, formed by two semicircles with a central courtyard. The ground and first floors housed storage areas and troop rooms.
