In the municipality of Sori, in the province of Genoa, this Catholic church was built in the 13th century. It is dedicated to Apollinare di Ravenna, a Roman bishop venerated as a saint. The bell tower was rebuilt in 1885, after a lightning strike knocked down the previous one.

The church and the adjacent convent were built at the end of the 1400s by the Assereto family. The current church, however, is no longer the original one at the site of the bombings that affected the city of Recco at the end of '43. The current structure was completed in 1955.

Sanctuary on the watershed between the gulf of Paradise and the gulf of Tigullio. From the terrace of the sanctuary the view opens on the heights of Rapallo and descends to its coast. On the right, the ridges of Mount Ampola and Esoli unwind as far as the Ruta di Camogli. The sea view ends - among the vegetation - on Recco. Turning your gaze towards the hinterland of Rapallo you can see, in order, Monte Borgo and Monte Manico del Lume.

Recommended ring because of the views both on the ridge that separates the Golfo Paradiso (Recco) from the Gulf of Tigulllio (Rapallo) and for the beautiful view from the Caravaggio sanctuary. From Ruta it is easy to climb up to the ridge. Then with a slight up and down you cross a wood that leads to the plains of Caravaggio. From here, take the cemented path that leads to the stairway to the sanctuary. Low steps and handrails make it safe going up and down.

Beautiful small and old church in a fantastic location with mountain, coast and sea views. Appropriately located on the "Via del Gran Paradiso"... 😉
