Bringing a good piadina to the beach and enjoying it under the umbrella while watching the beach-dryer... it's priceless

Saracen Tower (17th century) After the invasions and robberies of Turkish pirates in the last years of the 16th century, the Papal State finally decided to build a series of towers, along the coast, from Tavollo to Bellaria, to defend the inhabitants of the coast. Inside them, at that time very high above the dunes and the beach, there was a garrison of five soldiers and a commander, equipped with "arquebuses, mortars, powder and fuses". At the sound of the bell, in case of danger, the inhabitants could "lock themselves in" inside and organize themselves for defense. The Bellaria Tower was built in 1673 by the Apostolic Chamber in the fortification plan of the coast, the only one remaining with the original features of the six present with three floors covered by vaults and an internal spiral staircase. Over time, the function of the towers was transformed to host the quarantine of “suspects of contagion” coming from the sea for commercial traffic, “especially from Genoa” and for surveillance against smugglers. More recently, the Bellaria Tower has hosted the barracks of the Guardia di Finanza. The Shell Museum The malacological collection is now set up on the upper floors of the building, with finds partly from the Desideri collection of Rome, purchased by the municipality of Bellaria and ordered by the Institute of Zoology of the University of Bologna. It is a conspicuous series of shells, molluscs, skeletons of marine organisms, madrepores, echinoderms, crustaceans, turtle shells. Among the most important specimens are some nautiluses from the Indian Ocean, tritonids, large volutes, pearl oysters and the rare boats used by the argonaut to incubate the eggs. It includes a rich series of shells and molluscs and a vast collection of skeletons of marine organisms: madrepores, echinoderms, large crustaceans, turtle shells. The exhibited pieces, coming from all over the world, constitute a remarkable natural heritage very useful both for starting to learn about the sea and for seeing the complex evolution of the tiny inhabitants of the underwater world. Admission is free and offers free guided tours during opening hours.
