Here, at the foot of the Three Peaks, the Rienz river has its source at an altitude of 2180 m. In its upper reaches, the river initially crosses protected areas in the Three Peaks Nature Park and the Fanes-Sennes-Braies Nature Park, namely the short Rienz valley and then the Höhlenstein valley.

The western pass that you overcome on the standard rune around the Three Peaks - a little less steep than in the east (although both are actually quite harmless).

The forcella Col di Mezzo is a mountain pass located at 2315 meters above sea level, at the foot of the Three Peaks of Lavaredo. It is located right at the intersection where you can head towards the Auronzo refuge, towards the Langalm refuge or towards the valley, towards Lake Antorno.

Shortly before the yoke you can see the imposing walls of the Three Peaks again.

Starting the hike towards the west has the advantage for photographers that you have the sun behind you in the afternoon and can take better photos of most of the mountains.

The Three Peaks (Italian: Tre Cime di Lavaredo) are a striking mountain range in the Sesto Dolomites on the border between the Italian provinces of Belluno in the south and South Tyrol in the north. Lake Landro is located at the end of the Val di Landro, in Alto Adige, about twenty kilometers from Cortina d'Ampezzo. From the cycle path that runs along the shore of the lake you can admire the steep rock faces of the Dolomites.
