The railway border bridge over the Lusatian Neisse in Łęknica was built in 1907 and is today the only and most interesting site reminding us of the era of railway operation on the Muskau Arch. The bridge is 186.4 meters long and consists of eight 22-meter-long, six-bay truss arch spans and one shortened span of 10.4 meters. The structure is supported by two reinforced concrete abutments and eight supports, two of which are permanently submerged in water when the Lusatian Neisse is in normal condition. The bridge's unique feature was its southwest-facing curve, as it connected routes approaching the river from different directions, forming a right angle to each other. The bridge was destroyed during the war in 1945. It was renovated in 1954, but regular traffic was never restored. Following the closure of the Łęknica–Raduszec Stary railway line, the tracks were dismantled, and the railway bridge in Łęknica was revitalized on the railway embankment as part of the cross-border "Adventure with Nysa" project in 2014. It was adapted to pedestrian and bicycle traffic, creating a 37-kilometer cycle path from Bad Muskau through Łęknica, Trzebiel, and Tuplice to Brody. As a result, Łęknica and Bad Muskau have become a Euro-regional hub for Lubusz Voivodeship cycle paths with Saxony and Brandenburg. You can buy fresh milk here and (if you like) boil it. The cows that give the milk are just a few meters away. There are also seasonal farm produce. When I was there, in addition to milk, you could also buy potatoes, applesauce, and jam. All from a trustworthy cash register.

Anyone cycling through Bad Muskau and wondering whether landscape can be art should simply dismount. Because Muskau Park isn't a green space; it's a poem in trees, paths, and sightlines. Designed by the eccentric Prince Pückler, who wanted to impress with gardens more than with wars, it is now rightfully a UNESCO World Heritage Site. And you notice this with every pedal stroke. One-third of the park lies in Germany, two-thirds in Poland – a European masterpiece of garden design that knows no boundaries except those of good taste. There are no "signs with arrows" here, but rather sightlines that guide you. You cycle past ancient oaks, over gentle bridges, through light avenues. And then, suddenly, it appears: the New Palace. So red, so magnificent, so playfully baroque that you'd think a piece of cotton candy had become a listed building. Behind the palace, the building is reflected in the water like an embarrassed self-portrait, framed by flowers, bushes, and the stories of those who once strolled here – and now picnic. Those seeking open spaces will find it. Those seeking peace and quiet will too. And those who simply want to cycle have rarely had a more beautiful ride. The Prince Pückler Park is not a place you "visit" – you encounter it. And sometimes, when the light is right and the palace glows, you also encounter yourself a little bit anew.

7月 9, 2024, Schloss Spremberg
The origins of Spremberg Castle go back to a water and swamp castle from the 13th century. Remains of a square and a round tower are still preserved today. The two-storey north wing was built in the 16th century. In the following century, it was expanded into a summer residence for Duke Heinrich of Saxony-Merseburg. more information: lausitzerseenland.de/de/entdecken/sehenswertes-und-kultur/schloesser-und-burgen/artikel-schloss-spremberg.html

6月 2, 2024, View of Muskau Castle
The Prince Pückler Park in Bad Muskau, based on the English model, extends over an area of over 830 hectares on both sides of the Neisse. What appears to be naturally occurring and grown is planned down to the last detail - a garden work of art by Hermann Prince Pückler-Muskau. The nobleman designed the landscape park between 1815 and 1845. In 2004, the complex was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
