While it's quite warm on the climb from Santa Maria Salina, even in winter, it quickly becomes uncomfortable on the ridge where the shelter is, also because that's where the fog tends to start and it's draughty. It is certainly even more unpleasant if there are breaks in the rain. Otherwise see comment from Luigi Piranello. I recommend descending to the right of the refuge over the fire protection strip to Pizzo Capo and enjoying the wonderful view of Panarea and Stromboli as well as the Monte dei Porri.
