The Holländerhaus is located in Hofen. The historic half-timbered house is one of the most beautiful houses in the canton of Schaffhausen. In 1684, Tobias Holländer bought the "Hof zu Hova" and built his noble residence there, the famous Holländerhaus.

True to the original house from the Bronze Age The pile-dwelling house is based on the archaeological finds from the pile-dwelling site on the Riesi peninsula, which protrudes into Lake Hallwil within sight. In 1923, the Seengen Historical Association under Reinhold Bosch examined a small section of the site and unearthed excellently preserved wooden pile-dwelling structures, including a block-built substructure. This still supports the floor of the pile-dwelling house today and raises it so that the house is protected from flooding - just as it was in the late Bronze Age around 1000 BC. The roof of the pile-dwelling house is covered with shingles. Hundreds of these have been found in other pile-dwelling settlements of this period. A wooden door closes the house.

You have to move as calmly and slowly as possible on the short detour to the lake so that you don't scare the animals away. The cormorants in particular seem to be very suspicious and leave quickly.
