Church of San Rocco, Ronchiano (Castelveccana) Chiesa di San Rocco, Ronchiano (Castelveccana) The church, of which little news of the late 16th century is heard, faces east and has a unique rectangular aisle and a square presbytery grafted onto the faithful's classroom with a sacred arch crowned by a classical frame. The very simple layout corresponds to the unadorned facade, which opens on a small collection in the center of the. The masonry is in mixed stone; the covering is in copen. The bell tower resounds on the north flank. Ronchiano's narrow streets are a sight alone! In 1629 a terrible outbreak of plague broke out, which lasted until 1631 and decimated the population by two thirds. (And the plague was sadly and realistically made famous in the "Promises of the Bride and Groom") On the occasion of this scourge, the inhabitants of Castello Valtravaglia made a vow to build an oratory in honor of San Rocco, whose protection they had invoked, knowing his prodigious contributions to the Festival. The small church, built around 1640 in harmonious and discreet architectural lines, is located among the old houses of Ronchiano. The altar is made of fine wood and also in wood is the statue of the saint, the work of a master of the Valgardena. This small church, levered up by a Renaissance porch, is important for the cycle of frescoes it contains; unfortunately they are in serious danger of disappearing and only partially brought back to light by removing the inappropriate whitewash that had covered them. In 1985, a picture was placed on the altar depicting "the sacrifice of Saint Genesis": it is the faithful reproduction of the brave Milanese painter Giovanna Ronchi from the original painting of the 17th year, which had previously repelled two weapons. Church of San Rocco - Porto Valtravaglia The building was built in 1523 in the center of Porto Valtravaglia, perhaps as a sign of gratitude for the plague survived.
