One of the most unusual fortifications, yet a technically brilliant solution, is the dam at Borghetto. This structure is a heavily fortified dam intended to impound the Mincio River and thus cut off the water supply to the city of Mantua, a plan that ultimately never came to fruition. The Scaligeri family commissioned the dam. The dam now serves as a bridge.

Borghetto is rightly included in the most beautiful villages in Italy and in fact it is difficult to resist the charm of this town literally "invaded" by water. The old fortifications are also impressive and still resist the current of the Mincio. Furthermore, with a short climb you can reach Valeggio sul Mincio, another beautiful village. If possible, avoid the area on weekends, so as not to drown in the sea of crowds!
