Friedland is home to the largest church in the surrounding area. It is a listed building. It was built in its current form between 1825 and 1828. There were two churches on the market square until the last great fire on December 7, 1822. After the Wendish church fell victim to the fire, the former German church was enlarged with a Gothic extension. The five-sided east extension was completed in 1846.
