ここに祀られている守護聖人（教会は「聖マリアの誕生」に捧げられています）を記念して、聖ヨハネス・ダマセヌス（675/676年生まれ、754年以前没）による霊的な考察のための短い言葉を、立ち寄る方々に提供したいと思います。「神の母の誕生の日は、普遍的な喜びの日です。なぜなら、神の母を通して、全人類が新しくされ、最初の母エバの苦しみが喜びに変えられたからです。」

The impressive church is usually referred to by locals simply as "the Pantheon." Construction began in 1919 after the First World War. Its circular nave is unique. The cylindrical structure is characterized by large columns with expansive windows. These columns support a small terrace with several smaller windows, each crowned by a stone cross. A small reinforced concrete bell tower rises from the church roof. It is an important memorial to the fallen of the First World War, as it houses the remains of Syracusan soldiers who died on the front lines during that conflict.
