Its history has its roots in the 13th century, when, according to legend, a shepherd found an image of the Madonna at the top of the mountain. The current sanctuary was built in the 15th century and became an important place of pilgrimage. The climb to the sanctuary is an exciting challenge. The challenging route crosses winding paths, woods and mountain slopes. However, the effort of the climb is rewarded not only by the surrounding natural beauty, but also by the spirituality and history that surround the sanctuary.

The views from up there are absolutely stunning - you can see for miles all around the valley. Getting to the top is no easy feat though, that path is pretty darn steep! Nothing beats the satisfaction of conquering the descent on foot though. You really feel like you earned those views. Stopping to catch your breath and taking it all in - it's totally worth the effort. Just a heads up that it's not for the faint of heart!
