Nassfeld is a beautiful hiking area on the Carnic Main Ridge, a saddle between the Austrian Gail Valley and the Italian Canal Valley. The pass is at an altitude of 1530 m above sea level, and the surrounding mountains include the Gartnerkofel (2195 m), the Rosskofel (2239 m), and the Trogkofel (2280 m). For flower lovers, the Gartnerkofel is a must! The Kuhtritt, a rare and endemic mountain flower, can be found here! For culinary delights, there are several beautiful huts and interesting restaurants to discover! 😋

The small reservoir at the Nassfeld pass is beautiful, but unfortunately overrun by camper vans and motorcyclists on weekends.

A small man-made lake right next to the border with a road and hiking trail around it. A beautiful place for taking photos, sitting and relaxing, and in winter for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

In winter it is also easily accessible for hikers, although occasionally slippery. Snowshoes or stainless steel spikes for hiking boots are a good solution for grip. You can go downhill to the pass on a sledge.

We didn't visit the sulfur springs, but the tour is highly recommended, as well as the snack on the Garnitzenalm and great food and beer on the Watschigeralm

By far the best Kaiserschmarrn in the area and also the Vesper a pleasure! Was here once after sunrise on the Gartnerkofel, seldom have we been welcomed so warmly and at such an early hour, and during the day with our family for a delicious feast and cattle drive.
