At the hut, you can enjoy good, traditional dishes at really fair prices. In good weather, you can enjoy the view of the lake from the terrace. If the weather is bad, there's plenty of space inside, too.

The Rifugio Oratorio di Cunéy, perched at 2,652 meters in the heart of the Saint-Barthélemy valley, stands next to the sanctuary of the Madonna delle Nevi, one of the highest in Europe. Built on the ruins of a chapel dating back to 1656, it now welcomes hikers with simple warmth, wooden rooms, and home-cooked food, becoming a refuge and place of pilgrimage. The path to reach it from Lignan or Porliod winds through larch forests, pastures, and alpine lakes, up to the panoramic Col du Salvé, a prelude to the Cunéy basin, where the surrounding peaks protect this wild and sacred corner. In a single dive, sacredness merges with the mountain warmth: here the silence is profound, interrupted only by the wind and prayers, and every night captures the essence of haute montagne and alpine simplicity. At the back, a winter shelter (open all year round) is available to hikers who, having reached this place, wish to stop for the night, although the refuge and chapel are closed during the winter and low season.

The Bivacco Tzan, perched at 2,482m on the picturesque Lago Tzan in Valtournenche, is a small refuge that is always open and can accommodate up to nine hikers with a wood stove, blankets, mattresses and dishes. The path that climbs from Torgnon offers wide and uncontaminated landscapes, passing through mountain pastures, ruins and alpine meadows, until it reveals a high-altitude corner where the silence is broken only by the wind and the waters of the lake. The bivouac is a perfect mountain refuge: rustic, essential and intimate, it offers refreshment and warmth, making the experience of an overnight stay at high altitude a unique memory. Out there, the panorama ranges from the surrounding peaks to the Matterhorn, offering a fairytale sunrise or sunset.

Rifugio Jean Barmasse, at 2,169 meters above sea level in Valtournenche, is a welcoming refuge that welcomes hikers looking for tranquility and breathtaking views. Immersed in a unique natural setting, it offers a rustic and warm atmosphere, perfect for recharging your batteries after a day on trails and Alpine lakes. Its strategic position makes it an ideal starting point for exploring the wonders of Alta Via 1 and the surrounding mountains.

near the refuge, the oratory is a witness to mountain civilization. Worth seeing are the ex-votos of the locals. Always open, the oratory reflects the great sacredness of the places and the mountains around.

Very nice and welcoming, easily reachable on foot

A bivouac that is not very easy to reach, obviously this varies according to the path you decide to follow, but all in all the beauty of the landscape far repays the effort made to reach it, from the bivouac you can also observe Lake Tzan which is located 5 minutes from there, at the bivouac we can find everything we need in case we want to have a nice restful sleep at high altitude. We can also find a space to tie up the bicycle and a large table and large benches outside, to enjoy a sandwich with the thrill of the silence of the wind, in short, the ideal place for those who love tranquility and for those who want to escape from the frenzy of the routine of daily life, from my experience I highly recommend it.

About 3 hours to reach the refuge, where next to it is the Oratorio di Cuney sanctuary, the highest Marian sanctuary (dedicated to the Heavenly Mother) in Europe. There are several routes to reach it, the more adventurous can try the Passet path, exposed and equipped with chains, otherwise there is the alternative of the classic path
