Situated at almost 2,000 metres, the Pampeago Pass is located between the Val d'Ega and the Val di Fiemme. Connecting Tesero and Cavalese with Obereggen, it is one of the toughest climbs in the Alps. The last kilometres of the southern slope were paved for the 2012 Giro d'Italia. Not to be confused with the so-called Alpe di Pampeago, about 200 metres lower on the Tesero side.

Known for its splendid Alpine architecture, Cavalese is the historical and administrative capital of the Val di Fiemme. The historic center is characterized by elegant buildings, among which the Palazzo della Magnifica Comunità di Fiemme stands out, a Renaissance building that houses a museum dedicated to local history and culture. This small town is a true oasis of tranquility in the heart of the Val di Fiemme. The area is characterized by large meadows, woods and spectacular views of the Lagorai mountains, making it a perfect destination for those seeking relaxation and contact with nature. The route that leads to Spianez is on a dirt road, smooth and mainly flat and accessible to all, including families with small children.

Nice climb on both sides. From the Stava side the climb is very difficult. Stage arrival of the 1998 Giro d'Italia with the challenge between Pantani and Tonkov.
