To shorten the hike, it's best to take the chairlift to the Helios refuge, saving almost two hours of dirt road that passes by the Savigliano refuge. There aren't any major difficulties, except for the very last few meters where it climbs very steeply.

Located a few kilometers from Bobbio Pellice in the Pis della Rossa area, in the Carbonieri valley, the refuge is located in a splendid place where you can spend one or more days with family or friends surrounded by nature.

The first structure of the Pian del Re refuge hotel was built by the Municipality of Crissolo in 1874 to accommodate mountaineers intent on climbing the Normal route of Monviso. In 1909 it became privately owned and management passed to the Perotti family, a historic dynasty of mountain guides of Monviso. Numerous paths start from here, both for day trips and for multi-day treks, such as the Giro del Monviso, or mountaineering itineraries, including the Normal route of Monviso. The refuge is open every day from the beginning of June to the end of September and offers 30 beds, in addition to a bar and restaurant service. The Barbara Lowrie refuge is located in Pis della Rossa, in the Carbonieri valley of Bobbio Pellice. It was built in 1928 by a Canadian couple, Walter and Barbara Lowrie, who used it as a hunting lodge. Later, they sold it to the CAI UGET who turned it into a refuge, inaugurating it in 1931. Tough climb alternating stretches in the woods and stretches on asphalt, but the view once you reach the hill is worth the effort.

Very tough climb, from Pontechianale to the Helios refuge, pedalable with overturning slopes, from the refuge to the summit all portage and push. But the descent is one of the most beautiful I've ever done

The summit is located at 3209 meters above sea level on the border of France and Italy. You get beautiful 360 degree views, with Monte Viso (paramount logo) and Mont Blanc filling the view. In my experience the climb was challenging. The paths were not always clear, so we took the wrong path twice and had to climb instead of walking. I recommend staying in group to avoid doubt and follow the gravel path. Despite the brief fear, it was definitely worth it!! Top experience
