The military buildings "Ricoveri Peruccetti" are from the late 1800s and early 1900s.
At 2586m above sea level is the lake Ramella better known as "Lago dei Cannoni". The name derives from four canon positions that have been near the lake since 1905. Two of these cannons (the only one in the Western Alps) are still in positions. A gun carriage can be recognized in the lake.

A beautiful circular hike. Beware, however, of the misleading two-hour indication! Messner might be able to manage it. If you're a regular hiker, no less than three hours or more... WARNING: Once you reach Lake Cannoni or Ramella, if you suffer from vertigo, do not follow the signs for trail A on the right. There are exposed sections, and one section is equipped with a damaged rope. Turn left and you will rejoin the outward route at the level of the early 1900s forts.

The first structure of the Pian del Re refuge hotel was built by the Municipality of Crissolo in 1874 to accommodate mountaineers intent on climbing the Normal route of Monviso. In 1909 it became privately owned and management passed to the Perotti family, a historic dynasty of mountain guides of Monviso.
