8月 21, 2025, Passo della Mulattiera
The descent is difficult but the landscape is beautiful

https://youtu.be/Kl8aY-ksp7c?si=lv9_5ko1gQxpJgSM A classic during the Alpine Crossing to the south, as it's well-ridden. The steep downhill section isn't that long and can be pushed without difficulty, so I had no problem with it.

Very tough climb with gradients almost always in double figures.

7月 27, 2025, Passo della Mulattiera
A rugged border pass linking Italy back to France, the Col de la Mulattiera is as remote as it is demanding. The climb is steep and loose, with the final meters carved into bare rock. At the top, the views stretch endlessly across the plateau of Col du Granon, the Cerces massif, and the Italian valleys behind you. Beside the pass stands the Caserma XVI, a weathered stone barracks, a quiet trace of the lives once lived in these high borderlands.

Excuse me, Alessandra, how did you do it? Since it's not for beginners? PS: There are no beginners in MTB! I don't think you're a MTB guide? Or am I wrong?

3月 19, 2025, Col de la Vallée Étroite
Also known as the Col de la Vallée-Étroite. We've already ridden the pass twice on our tours to the Mediterranean. While the climb from Modane is scenically charming, I only recommend the descent at the beginning. The "technical section" is the opposite of a highlight for me.

12月 7, 2023, Col de la Vallée Étroite
The Vallée Étroite pass, linking Maurienne (Modane) to Piedmont (Bardonèche) at the foot of Mont Thabor (3178m), was integrated into the "Maginot line" of the Alps in the 1930s-40s as a border pass. Following the Franco-Italian agreements of 1947, the border was moved a few kilometers from Le Mélézet, placing part of the Vallée Étroite under French sovereignty. The pass can be reached from two slopes.

it is a nice "honest" climb both from the NEVACHE side (dirt road of medium difficulty due to the surface and the slope but practically free of traffic) and from the Serre Chevalier side (all asphalt but heavy traffic depending on whether it is a holiday or not). And then, once at the top of the hill, you can: go down on the opposite side to the uphill side, go down (MTB OCA) on medium-challenging single track but with very dangerous exposed sections, absolutely forbidden to fall or even take, after the cracks and the beer if the bar is open, the road up and back to where you came up from. If you get off on the opposite side you will need to consider recovering the car which will add a certain number of km to the lap. We did NOT go up to the Croix de Toulose (wet rocks and uncertain weather), immediately descending onto asphalt at Bois de l'Ours and then recovering the car after Val de Pres. Cost of the tour not even 40 km, not that much, all things considered.. .

8月 25, 2023, Col du Sommeiller Gravel Climb
Beautiful ride , however ,at least at the end of August 23 , the road in the last few kilometer is in bad conditions . A lot of stones make the ride difficult .I suggest of doing it by Mountain Bike rather than Gravel.

Finally the wonder! Ascent to Colle dell'Assietta. Departure from Pian dell'Alpe, where the most famous of the military roads in the area begins, the Strada dell'Assietta which reaches Sestriere following the watershed ridge between Val Susa and Val Chisone and crossing the plateau of the same name. The first stretch from Pian dell'Alpe to Colle dell'Assietta runs on the south side with glimpses of Monte Albergian and distant Sestriere. After about 12km. the road becomes more demanding and narrower in some stretches: to the north you can see the Gran Serin battery, which rises imposingly on the underlying Colle dell'Assietta. After the latter and the Testa dell'Assietta, the itinerary continues towards the Genevris, touching the Battery of Gran Mouttas on the right and the Battery Gran Costa on the left; the Lauson, Blegier and Bourget hills follow, always at altitudes above 2000m. Having reached Colle Basset, the descent to Sestriere begins. Given the late hour and the looming fog, after a short stop at the Casa Assietta Refuge, I opted for the return, retracing the wonderful stretch of road I had gone up, thus giving me magical visions created by the fog. The most beautiful ride ever on the road, landscapes and fitness at 🔝. To be repeated absolutely!

Located on the southern border between France and Italy, the Col du Sommeiller peaks at 2,995 meters above sea level. Its long climb of 26 kilometers is accessible by mountain bike. The view at the top is spectacular. You need a good physical condition to climb this passage of altitude.
