A lake and its evocative history. To build the dam in the 1930s, the village of Morasco was submerged, and the residents were forced to abandon everything. The dam was inaugurated in 1940. The San Giacomo Pass is an Alpine pass that connects Val Formazza in Piedmont with Val Bedretto in the Canton of Ticino. It is located at 2308 meters above sea level and is the northernmost point of Piedmont. The Morasco dam is an artificial dam that originates the lake of the same name located in the upper Val Formazza, with a surface at an altitude of 1815 m above sea level. The dam was created in the 1930s by the Edison company to generate electricity for the valley by submerging the town of Morasco, a town of Walser origin inhabited since the 15th century.
