February 2025: Landslide in the Amper Gorge in front of Grafrath, so the path can only be walked by experienced hikers or with pole protection.

At the moment, the last stretch of the path from Schöngeising to Grafrath is not accessible due to wind damage. You have to take the dirt road above the gorge.

Very nice place for a break

The Amper River crossing near Schöngeising has a long and interesting history. Schöngeising was already an important location in Roman times, as the Roman road Via Julia crossed the Amper River here. This road connected Augsburg (Augusta Vindelicorum) with Salzburg (Juvavum) and was an important trade route. Archaeological finds, including oak posts from a Roman bridge, attest to the existence of this crossing. This bridge facilitated river crossings and was part of a roadside station that offered travelers rest and supplies.
