We only knew Plau am See by name before and stopped there for two days on our way back from the Baltic Sea. It's a very beautiful area. The cycling and hiking trails are well-developed. Of course, it's not very busy in February. Perfect for relaxing hikes! 👍

The cycle path is mostly well-developed. If you don't want to cycle directly along the water, there's always a good paved alternative route.

Pretty

A well-developed main cycle path provides access to all points of entry to the West Beach. The fastest connection between Prerow and Ahrenshoop leads through the beautiful Darß Forest.

Combined with the dunes and pine trees, this makes for a wonderful photo to remember. The Darßer Ort lighthouse, commissioned in 1849, is 35 meters high and located on the northwest tip of the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula. It has been open to visitors again since 1995. Coming from Prerow, you bypass Zingst here, continuing towards the mainland. The narrow path is challenging. It only gets better once you reach the former railway embankment.

It's proven to be one of the most frequently used bike paths in Germany. However, there's no alternative if you want to cycle in the opposite direction from Prerow to Zingst. It's easily rideable in the off-season, but offers no special views.

Everything has a sense of space and breadth. Even most of the newer houses blend harmoniously with the older buildings. The colorful Darß front doors and gable signs, with their artfully carved ornaments, not only delight the eye but also provide information about the profession and origins of their builders.
