The Novalis Trail connects the Jena Romantic House with the town of Schlöben, 15 km southeast, and takes hikers on a journey into the early Romantic period. Shrine of the Association of Thuringian Mountain, Castle, and Forest Communities: Up there near the Fuchsturm Tower is the end point of the Geological Nature Trail. The shrine, consisting of 32 stone monuments, was erected in 1936 to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Fuchsturm Society and the 14th Federal Festival of Thuringian Mountain, Castle, and Forest Communities. It also offers a unique geological overview of the rock types primarily found in Thuringia, representing the periods of past geological eras.
