A long but very scenic route. The via ferrata was recently renovated, but there are exposed, unprotected sections where extreme caution is required.

Road of the 52 Tunnels of Pasubio

Starting point for the route that leads to the Achille Papa Refuge through the 52 Tunnels, equipped with numerous parking areas

Always an interesting route, starting, in my case, from Thiene, along the Val Logra to Pian dell Fugazze (the last stretch from the Balasso refuge is a bit challenging). Then I took the road that leads to the CAMPOGROSSO refuge, with a stunning view of the CAREGA mountain range. After a stop at the refuge, I descended towards Recoaro. However, once I reached the village of Merendaore, I followed a narrow, partly paved road that passes through rustic villages to reach Valcalda, from where you can easily reach Staro and the Valli del Pasubio.

The final reward! We reached the summit of Cima Baffelan after a crazy hike. An adventure that gave us breathtaking views and a bit of history. Probably the most impressive tunnel. Simply crazy!

One of the most beautiful and impressive hikes I've ever done. Simply breathtaking. The Strada delle 52 Gallerie, also known as the Strada della 1ª Armata or Strada della Prima Armata, is one of the most famous and most visited Italian military roads of the First World War. It was built to supply the Italian positions on the Pasubio.
