Castle ruins above Alvito

A few kilometers from the town of Alvito, among the mountains bordering Abruzzo, there is the so-called Fossa Maiura (815 m), a karst depression that almost forms a natural amphitheater: it is a gigantic sinkhole about 100 meters deep and about 3 km in circumference, in the shape of an inverted truncated cone with a perimeter of more than a kilometer.
