The Roveto Valley is formed by the Liri River, which rises in the Simbruini Mountains and reaches Sore and then Isola Liri. The upper section of the road passes through very narrow gorges with breathtaking views of picturesque villages perched on rocky promontories.

The old Balsorano is perched on a gentle hill overlooking the Roveto Valley in the last strip of Marsica bordering the Ciociara province and Sora. The Piccolomini Castle dominates the ancient village.
