Starting just outside the town of San Giuseppe Jato, this stretch of provincial road 20 climbs up to the picturesque Portella della Paglia pass, in a succession of hairpin bends and breathtaking views. The surface isn't perfect, but you can pedal safely even on a small section of landslide, which is well-marked. Tackled in autumn/winter, it almost feels like you're not in Sicily.

A mountain pass about 800 meters above sea level, where for a moment you can almost forget you're in Sicily. Surrounded by woods and deep gorges, it is sadly famous for the massacre that took place there after World War II. Nearby, during the Fascist era, a small village of roadmen's houses was built, whose structures still adorn the sides of the road today.

A well-maintained and scenically breathtaking segment of the state road 186, which allows you to pedal in peace, enjoying a privileged view of the city of Palermo.

At certain times it can be busy, even with heavy vehicles.

Be careful, the road surface is very slippery when it's wet. Unfortunately, I fell on a dry day. It can be wet in the bends and the road is very slippery in places. But it's a very scenic descent.

Very valuable work from the seventeenth century, which deserves better protection and greater attention from everyone. Consisting of two main parts, that is, a wall front and a large basin delimited by a parapet. The space in front is delimited by appropriately shaped paving stones for water disposal. The central front is made up of five blocks, on three of which there are bas-reliefs of human-like figures. In the upper part there is a large plaque engraved with the date of construction (1609) and a dedication. The central front ends with a tympanum surmounted by three pinnacles supporting three hemispheres. In the central part of the tympanum there is a stone coat of arms with symbolic figures engraved on it: a lion, a palm tree and the head of a man. On the side of the front there are ten daisies, five on each side, made in bas-relief on tuff blocks, in the center of which there is a hole for the water to escape. The water system, which no longer exists, which fed the outlets, consisted of a canal placed against the support wall of the fountain itself. The pool, paved in terracotta, is delimited by a parapet made of a series of blocks of molded tuff stone. The fountain stopped working in the 1950s due to the open-air water supply system polluting the water.

In the small square in front of the Trappeto station, there is this small wash house, which, especially on hot summer days, is an almost obligatory destination to replenish your water supplies and refresh yourself.

Splendid segment of state road 186 that climbs between narrow gorges. Pedalable both going up from Partinico and coming down from the hamlet of Sagana, in the latter case (in which very high speeds are reached) it requires a little attention as the road surface can be damp even on sunny days
