It was a late 19th-century engineer, Eugenio Villoresi, son of the director of the gardens of Villa Reale in Monza, who envisioned extending the irrigation of the fields upstream from this imaginary line. He therefore designed a long canal connecting Lake Maggiore to the Adda River, using its waters to distribute, for a fee, to all the fields between the canal and the fountain line. Obtaining the government concession and securing the project's financing was certainly no easy feat; Villoresi did not see its completion, which took place in 1890, 11 years after his death.

Inside the Ticino park, one of the many cycle paths passes through the hamlet of Tornavento, in the municipality of Lonate Pozzolo. In addition to having a singular evocative name, Tornavento was the scene of a battle between the troops of the King of Spain and a French army in 1636.

Decentralized from the town centre, now a hamlet of Sumirago, the castle was built in the 14th century as a home for hunting activities. It has a massive quadrangular structure, with a central courtyard and a sturdy square tower overlooking the valley. The transformations of the 17th century converted the castle into a residential villa, while maintaining some features of the origins. The park, built in the 18th century in the English garden style, is home to three farmhouses.

The construction of the Jerago castle dates back to the early 13th century and is inextricably linked to the Visconti family of Jerago. This fortress was part of the northern defense line of the Duchy of Milan. In the 18th century, the fortress was converted into a residence.

1月 17, 2024, Church of Santa Maria in Binda
This small church might go unnoticed by the distracted eyes of those whizzing by on bicycles, but it certainly deserves a stop. Built in the 13th century, the church of Santa Maria in Binda is today among the places registered by the FAI (Italian Environmental Fund). Put your bike down and go in to admire the cycle of frescoes dating back to the early sixteenth century. Find, in particular, the mysterious painting depicting the "dance of death", a skeleton inviting the final dance: an unusual subject in this region for that historical period.

1月 15, 2024, Naviglio Grande a Turbigo
The Naviglio Grande, once used for the transport of goods and people, connected Milan to Ticino. Near the town of Turbigo, the Naviglio is crossed by a bridge which had a strategic importance on 31 May 1800 when, with the battle of Turbigo, Napoleon Bonaparte's French troops conquered the bridge, thus gaining entry to Milan.

The Panperduto Dams are a hydraulic structure from which the Navigli system and the Canal originate. Villoresi. They are a 19th century monument, the result of a project that involved the Canton of Ticino (Switzerland) and Lombardy, and still represent the cornerstone of the entire hydraulic system of eastern Ticino.
