The Rocca di Pianello Val Tidone is an imposing medieval fortress dating back to the 13th century. Built for defensive purposes, the fortress dominates the village with its massive walls and strategic position. Today it houses the Archaeological Museum of Val Tidone, which preserves prehistoric, Roman and medieval finds, offering an overview of local history.

This road, despite being close to several towns and not far from Borgonovo, has the appearance of a country road immersed in vineyards that in autumn take on very warm colours that, in some cases, veer into all shades of red.

In this stretch the road runs along a ridge from which there is an open view of the vineyards on both sides, with several lines of mountains that follow one another towards the horizon.

In autumn the vineyards take on warm colors, with all the shades of color from dark green, to yellow and red. In the background you can see San Damiano al Colle on the right and Costa Montefedele on the left.

The Rocca di Pianello is believed to have been built towards the end of the fourteenth century, perhaps adapting a pre-existing 10th century fortress, destroyed by Federico Barbarossa in 1164. The reconstruction probably took place following the Visconti investiture of Jacopo Dal Verme in 1378. The irregular plan of the The building is perhaps due to the need to place a late medieval extension to the only tower of which we traditionally have memory. The owners made important changes in the 17th century, transforming it into a private home; today the building houses the Municipality of Pianello and the Archaeological Museum of Val Tidone, which houses the fundamental evidence that emerged from excavations in the area.

Of the original castle, located on a rather impervious coast formed by the Rio Canto, in the upper part of Piozzano, few traces remain in poor conservation conditions after the division of the entire complex into various properties and the consequent transformation for residential use[1 ]. Of the original structure there are some stone, pebble and brick wall structures, which retain arched windows and, inside, rooms with wooden coffered ceilings

The castle of Castelnovo Val Tidone is a fortress built on the remains of a previous castle (hence the name "Castelnovo"). In 1155, the structure hosted Frederick Barbarossa, the famous emperor of the Holy Roman Empire. The castle of Castelnovo has undergone several destructions and reconstructions due to battles and sieges. Despite this, it has well maintained the original fourteenth-century structure, refined in the interior between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, when it became the country residence of the Marazzani Visconti family. At the end of the 19th century, extensive restoration work was carried out on the structures. The fort, built almost entirely of bricks, has a trapezoidal layout with three circular towers at the corners. The curtain walls and the towers with Ghibelline battlements have a significantly raised slope compared to the level of the moat. The entrance opens into the north-west façade, where the drawbridge protected by a low crenellated tower was originally located. Also noteworthy is an elegant courtyard with a travertine well dating back to the 16th century. Despite the various reconstructions, the prevailing military character of the castle is still recognised, with references to fifteenth-century Lombard architecture. A vast park surrounds the manor, with centuries-old trees and some eighteenth-century statues.
