The finish site of the nineteenth stage of the 2022 Giro d'Italia, won by Koen Bouwman, the Castelmonte Sanctuary (Stara Gora in Slovenian, meaning "ancient mountain") is located in the village of the same name in the municipality of Prepotto. Dedicated to the Blessed Virgin, the sanctuary was consecrated in 1744 and is of great importance to Slovenian literature: in the 1490s, the so-called Castelmonte Manuscript (Starogorski rokopis in Slovenian) was written here, one of the oldest surviving documents written in the Slovenian language.

Cividale del Friuli was founded by Julius Caesar, at the time it was called Forum Iulii. The city has been recognized by UNESCO because it preserves significant Lombard remains and archaeological artefacts, now cared for by the National Archaeological and Christian Museums of the Cathedral. In addition to the archaeological culture, the puppet theater, the devil's bridge and Piazza Paolo Diacono where there are restaurants are worth a visit.
