The ascent to Mutegg is a great hike. The ascent on the west side of the summit is a little more challenging than the east side. If you want to do a circular hike, I recommend the ascent via the west and the descent via the east. The hike requires average fitness, a head for heights, but otherwise no special alpine experience - it is therefore also suitable for less experienced summiteers (in good weather).

All around a wonderful view. The Zoggler reservoir and above the Ultner Hochwart, the Einertal, the Auerbergtal with the Ilmspitz and the Seefeld Alm, the Bichlberg (2579 m), the Stübele, the Klapfbergtal, the Kirchbergtal with the Welscher Berg to the Rabbi Joch.

You can walk around the reservoir wonderfully. A very nice alternative is the path along the dam wall up to the Tisenhof and from there via the Finailhof. From there slowly down again towards the high ropes course. From there you can return to Vernagt either on the left or on the right bank of the lake.

The Vernagtstausee can be circumnavigated in two different ways. One winds more or less tightly around the lake. The second, over the Finailhöfe and the Tisenhof, also offers beautiful views across the lake.

You can feel the dryness here too. Normally the water level is not that low, but prolonged drought and drainage for the rivers in the valley are leaving their mark. Nevertheless, one of the most beautiful lakes in South Tyrol😊

The ascent from the Zetnalm or the Mauslochalm is only suitable for experienced hikers with good surefootedness. The path is very steep, with many large stones, partly over scree fields with very high steps. Not suitable for children/adults under 150 cm.

Small update: the lower part at Platzlegg is now clean and free of sticks and loose stones, but the "channel" is pretty washed out. Rocks half a meter high followed by extremely tight hairpin bends are not uncommon. I (as a local) would classify this piece more as an S3 and is only recommended for technically very experienced bikers.

The old Gasthof Jägerrast is located in the Pfossental. There is a parking lot here, you can only continue up the valley on foot.
