Just a few minutes' walk from the center of Lana, a completely different world opens up: the Gaul Gorge at the foot of the castle hill of Braunsberg Castle. Steep rocky slopes rise up on both sides, the river Falschauer babbles over the stony stream bed and even in midsummer the temperatures between the cool rock walls are pleasantly cool. Completely different types of rock come together here: between the quartz porphyry and the primary rock of the Old Gneisse, there is also a narrow strip of granite. Only a narrow strip of land between the massive rocks leads over the unspoiled mountain stream. From the Gaulwiese, a well-secured path leads over suspension bridges, past a roaring waterfall, further into the wildly romantic and increasingly narrow gorge; or up to Braunsberg Castle with a beautiful view over Lana.

Along this beautiful path between Avelengo and Avelengo di Sopra you can see a waterfall and several references (including statues, display panels and others) to horses: Avelengo is in fact known for being the cradle of origin of the Avelignese horse breed, or Haflinger. If you have the Forsterbräu behind you, it is best to park on the other side of the bridge. On the left side, the so-called Gaulpromenade leads directly into the gorge. Accompanied by the loud rushing of the Falschauer, you first walk a bit along an asphalt path. Shortly afterwards you reach a large square that is used for concerts and performances in summer and turns into an ice skating rink in winter. Now simply cross the square and follow the path on the other side. Shortly afterwards you go through a small tunnel. As you continue, the gorge becomes narrower and narrower. You pass a waterfall, cross several bridges and shortly afterwards reach the end of the gorge or the end of the hiking trail. There is another waterfall here. On the way there, you go back again.
