The Neptune Fountain in Piazza Duomo, Trento, was built between 1767 and 1769 according to a design by the architect Francesco Antonio Giongo from Lavarone. It originally featured a lead statue, which was badly damaged by weathering and had to be replaced with a bronze figure in the 20th century. The current Neptune statue is a 1945 copy, while the original is kept in the Museo Diocesano Tridentino. Besides its function as a prestigious ornament, the fountain also served as a water source for many years. For cyclists, a stop here is particularly worthwhile, as Piazza Duomo, with the Cathedral of San Vigilio, the surrounding palaces, and the magnificent Neptune Fountain, offers a unique glimpse into the history and atmosphere of Trento's historic center.

Arriving at Piazza del Duomo in Trento by bike and taking a break at Caffè Italia is a special experience. Even before you've fully parked your bicycle, you're greeted by the impressive Cathedral of San Vigilio and the Fountain of Nettuno, which bubbles up in the middle of the square. Castel Beseno, the largest hilltop castle in Trentino, sits atop a hill overlooking the Adige Valley and the Rio Cavallo Valley. The Ciclovia della Valle dell'Adige cycle path offers a beautiful view of the castle's mighty walls and towers, which blend majestically into the surrounding landscape. The fortress's origins date back to the 12th century, and it played a significant role during the Battle of Calliano in 1487, among other events.
