The Church of Madonna della Neve was built in the 17th century in the village of Malga Ortigara by the Ortigara family to escape the plague of 1630. They and their servants lived there for two years, bringing large quantities of provisions with them. Later, the family used the site as a summer residence. In the following decades, increasing numbers of pilgrims came up from the lake to this sanctuary. The Feast of Madonna della Neve is now celebrated annually at the small church on August 5th.

Nice route on dirt road

The Due Pozze point is beautiful, the starting point of the dirt path towards Chierego.

Situated at 1,400 meters above sea level, it is surrounded by vast pastures and centuries-old beech trees. The hut was built in the early 1900s and has a square layout with the "milk logo" facing uphill rather than downhill. These characteristics make this mountain hut unique, completely different from the traditional Baldo huts. From here, you can enjoy beautiful views of the lake and the Brescia and Trentino shores. The hut can be reached by climbing from Prada or from Due Pozze along the military road or trail no. 655.

Da Persico, in his Descrizione di Verona e della sua provincia (Description of Verona and its province) from 1820, states: "Part of the Carlotti Marchesi family took refuge in a well-maintained farmhouse, still standing in the south, during the plague of 1630." They had realized that the disease was transmitted by contagion, so they had a small palace built up there, retreated there with their servants, a large supply of provisions, and firewood, and spent two years there, including winters. They survived (in Verona, with a population of 53,000, 32,000 died, more than 60 percent). Here, every August 5th, the CTG organizes the popular and traditional festival of the Madonna della Neve. Worth admiring are the Gothic portal and the tablet of the Madonna della Neve with the prayer, placed by the CTG in 2012.

The southernmost lift to the Monte Baldo massif is something different: a standing chairlift. Enjoy the spectacular view, for young and old. But from the mid-station, a two-seater chairlift offers a relaxing ride up towards the clouds.

A very quiet place and without the need for much experience, an intermediate point between Prada and the Fiori del Baldo refuge, even if to reach it you have to take a slightly longer route.
